The clinic's history.
Dr. Shephard started his practice in Sellwood in February of 1987. In the fall of 1988 he began construction on the NW 23rd Avenue clinic with the help of his father George and commercial agents Clint Benson and Wade Bullier. It was a team effort, as the old Davis Building had been vacant for years with no renovation since the early 1970's. When the clinic first opened, the NW neighborhood had yet to be discovered and gentrified. Major landmarks at that time were Rose's Delicatessen, The Boys and Girls Aid Society, Papa Haydn, Nob Hill Bar and Grill, and Good Samaritan Hospital.
Dr. Shephard's old friend and classmate, Dr. Donald Fox, joined the clinic as a full partner in 1990. The two worked together for 14 years expanding clinic services to meet the increasing alternative health care needs of the growing and changing NW community. The clinic expanded into the adjacent building in 1995, forming the multidisciplinary Psauoscopy Group, LLC. This also allowed for additional parking, which the clinic continues to enjoy to this day.
Today Shephard Chiropractic approaches its 20th year of service, and much like the neighborhood around us, we have continued to evolve. One key development has been the incorporation of a gentle or "controlled" force method as our major emphasis in treatment. Benefits of this change include increased safety, more comfort in the delivery of care and, most importantly, improved results. Diagnostic X-ray and physiotherapy continue to be an important part of the clinic's service.
With Americans vigorously pursuing personal health options, natural health care has moved to the forefront. Chiropractic is a safe, affordable and non-invasive form of treatment that has been time tested. Shephard Chiropractic will continue to provide a high standard of care for northwest residents in years to come.
